It is very interesting to see this emphasized in the context of DDMRP (Demand Driven Material Requirement Planning).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DDMRP puts a new spin on Lean and Theory of Constraints (TOC) in combination with MRP. The theory of MRP in particular was somewhat stuck in the 1950s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although DDMRP immediately comes with the disclaimer that it is not a \u201csilver bullet,\u201d it aims to achieve more \u201cpull\u201d rather than \u2018push\u2019 in material flows and to decouple supply and demand, thereby keeping the infamous \u201cbullwhip\u201d at bay (who remembers The Beer Game?).
This is very useful in volatile supply chains, of which we have seen so many examples in recent years.
The authoritative book \u201cDDMRP\u201d by Ptak & Smith was \u201conly\u201d published in 2016. And yes, that makes me feel like an old fogey, because I graduated in 2010 and my APICS CPIM dates from 2011...
So I had to study it and am now completely inspired again.
