Flow in manuafacturing processes

The Importance of Flow

You understand: this is totally my thing. It's not for nothing that I named my company FlowFast.

It is very interesting to see this emphasized in the context of DDMRP (Demand Driven Material Requirement Planning).

What Demand Driven Material Requirements Planning does

DDMRP puts a new spin on Lean and Theory of Constraints (TOC) in combination with MRP. The theory of MRP in particular was somewhat stuck in the 1950s.

Although DDMRP immediately comes with the disclaimer that it is not a “silver bullet,” it aims to achieve more “pull” rather than ‘push’ in material flows and to decouple supply and demand, thereby keeping the infamous “bullwhip” at bay (who remembers The Beer Game?).
This is very useful in volatile supply chains, of which we have seen so many examples in recent years.

The authoritative book “DDMRP” by Ptak & Smith was “only” published in 2016. And yes, that makes me feel like an old fogey, because I graduated in 2010 and my APICS CPIM dates from 2011...
So I had to study it and am now completely inspired again.

Have you already applied DDMRP in your production process?
